Visiting Sharon
On the
weekend at the end of the 2nd week (15/3/03) Sharon's web
team went down to visit her. We were the first supporters
to travel down from her home town in Guisborough.
If you're
thinking of visiting London to support Sharon on the Flora
1000 Mile Challenge you might find the details of our visit
below helpful.

Supporter
trip - on a budget !!
We travelled
down to London by car (approx 4 1/2 hours) and stayed at the Lee
Valley Caravan & Campsite which is near Enfield in North London.
Route to Lee Valley Campsite
The campsite
was great - quiet (except for the whack of golf balls from 7am),
clean, good facilities and very friendly staff. It was just a 10
minute drive from Junction 26 on the M25 (near where the M11 crosses
the M25). You can find more info and directions on their website
Lee Valley
Camp Site (click on 'Places to stay').
There was a
12 screen cinema, leisure centre, restaurants and a golf course
on the same site.
From the campsite
it was a 5 minute bus ride to Edmonton Green where you catch a train.
You can take this to Liverpool Street or change a couple of stops
along for the Victoria line. It sounds like a lot of hassle but
on Saturday we never had to wait long for a connection and we got
across to where Sharon was in under an hour. Sunday was slower!
The weekend travelcard covered all our rides on buses, trains and
the tube. All the instructions about how to get into London like
bus numbers etc. are printed on the campsite leaflet.
You can find
out where Sharon is using the interactive map on the
Flora 1000 mile website or give Bill a phone on their mobile.
(contact us for mobile number)
The miles she was walking on Saturday evening and Sunday morning
were a little awkward to get to on the tube. She was south of the
river between the Cutty Sark and Canada Water. If you are lucky
and catch her on the north of the Thames it would be less of a journey
to meet up.
Costs:
Petrol
£60 between 3 of us
Campsite £5.70 per person
Weekend travelcard £6.70
Plus a bit extra for food and drink although mostly we took our
own.
