Smiling six hit the 100-mile landmark
Daily Mail 07/03/03 by Cathy Wood
Competitors in the Flora 1000 Mile
Challenge marched through their first major psychological barrier
last night as they crossed the 100-mile point of their campaign.
The
six were all smiles at the achievement, which came on day five of
the 42-day event to run or walk one mile every hour for 1000 hours
and then complete the Flora London Marathon.
Since
the Challenge started, they've walked the marathon course three
times, adapted to cramped living conditions on a converted bus,
gone without a single night of unbroken sleep, endured makeshift
meals, been drenched by rain and survived a sickness scare.
But
there were other reasons to celebrate yesterday as the Challengers
presented 39-year-old Sharon Gayter with a cake to celebrate her
11th wedding anniversary with husband Bill.
From
tomorrow, each competitor will have access to daily physiotherapy
and massage services.
